Training Awards

PFIZER LOGO Pfizer Trainee of the Year

The Pfizer Trainee of the Year Award 2010 is open to all United Kingdom pig unit personnel who can show how training benefits both their career and the performance of livestock on their unit.

Founded by Agskills, the award has gone from strength to strength since it became a national award in 2007. It has been extremely motivating, not only for entrants and their employers, but also for the industry as a whole.

It is the practical skills acquired through training that are judged, not literary skills and newcomers have as good a chance of success as more experienced employees.

The winner’s employer receives a £2,000 training grant.

The winner receives a £500 cash prize, an engraved trophy and an overnight trip to London to attend the presentation event at the House of Commons.

The first stage of selection is based on a simple application form, which is very quick to complete. The second stage is an informal interview with three judges. They all want entrants to do well and are there to encourage them!

The closing date for entries is Friday 30 July 2010

To download the application form click here.

Interview date: Wednesday 15 September 2010.

A Nuffield Farming Scholarship Award is an exceptional opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to:

  • Access the world's best in food and farming
  • Stand back from their day-to-day occupation and study a topic of real interest to them
  • Achieve personal development through travel and study
  • Deliver long-term benefits to UK farmers and growers and to the industry as a whole

A total of 21 individuals were awarded a 2010 Nuffield Farming Scholarship Award – all sharing a passion to study a topic they feel strongly about.

They include farmers and farm managers running livestock and cropping enterprises of various sizes, several ‘farm-to-fork’ food retailers, a specialist sheep consultant and a conservation advisor. Their studies range from ‘climbing the farming ladder’ to ‘practical alternatives to inorganic fertilisers’.

Anyone who’s been working in the farming industry for at least two years and is aged between 23 and 45 years old (inclusive) can apply for a Nuffield Farming Scholarship.
