Pig Environment Partnership

The Pig Environment Partnership (PEP) is led by BPEX and the National Pig Association (NPA). It seeks, through partnership, to stimulate and promote better environmental performance throughout the pig industry and achieve better regulation.
Often regulation of environmental issues, normally originating from European Commission Directives, is developed to achieve a sole purpose and is not part of a holistic approach. PEP seeks to break the “Silo” mentality and encourage joined up thinking to achieve better regulation and delivery of objectives. It will achieve this through partnership with producers, regulators and policy makers.
This Environment Hub and a Forum are central to the PEP and it is envisaged that the Pig meat Supply Chain Task Force, Environmental Requirements Sub-group, will form the basis of this Forum.
The
necessity for, aims and aspirations, together with a format for the Pig Environment Partnership, are discussed in a discussion document

Pig meat Supply Chain Task Force
The Pig meat Supply Chain Task Force, was setup by ex-Farming Minister Jane Kennedy in February 2009, it will operate for a period of 12 months. Its aim is to secure the future of the UK pig meat industry by bringing together all of the parties involved to tackle a number of key issues.
Under its Terms of Reference, the Task Force aims to improve the resilience of the pig meat supply chain through increased collaboration and achieving best practice throughout the chain. It may make recommendations for changes but its primary focus will be on increasing resilience within the current regulatory framework.
Environmental topics are being dealt with through the Environmental Requirements Sub-group.
