Pig keepers can brush up on all the essentials of pig husbandry and health at two free training events this month in Northumberland.

Vets Duncan Berkshire and Richard Evans of Bishopton Veterinary Practice will cover basic sow management, grower management and veterinary and medicine skills.

Ideal for smallholders or new entrants to pig farming, the afternoon workshops will be held on 9 and 15 March 2011 at The Derwent Manor Hotel, Allensford, Northumberland. The events are part of the LandSkills North East programme.

There are only eight spaces for each event, so please contact Jen Waters at BPEX to reserve a space: 07969 792022 or jen.waters@bpex.org.uk. A hot fork buffet will be provided.

To find out more about the range of training opportunities and funding for pig producers in your region, go to the Lantra website and click on the Landskills project.
